    Although it does not offer attractive settlement conditions at the first sight with its harsh climate and rugged topography, the geography of Eastern Anatolia is home to the dominant position of the Anatolian peninsula, rich underground and aboveground sources and important trade routes connecting China, India and Central Asia to the Mediterranean world. The economic-based political and military struggle of the Romans and the Parthians to control the trade routes passing through the region was marked by the ancient city of the region.
